An era of prosperity, cosmopolitan life, free spirit and high culture is what our ancestors lived in the great urban centers of Istanbul and Smyrna in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. All this vibrancy, prosperity and movement are contrasted with the pain and sadness of the destruction of Smyrna in 1922 in photographic documents that highlight history and awaken memories to those who lived through them and to those who heard them from stories. The exhibition aims to highlight this great contrast between the harmonious and peaceful life of the Greeks in Asia Minor before the great catastrophe and the horror and pain of the uprooting.
The exhibition was welcomed by the Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew and presented at the 23rd Primary School of Kalamaria on 5/30/22.
